Starting an Online Income Without Quitting Your Job

Almost everyone who builds an income online starts while employed. That is not a disadvantage — a salary is the cheapest funding you will ever have for a new project, because it removes the pressure to earn something this month.

Budget hours, not ambitions

Decide how many hours per week you genuinely have after work, family and rest. For most people that is between four and eight. Plan for the lower number. A project designed around six honest hours a week survives a busy month; one designed around twenty collapses in the first one.

Choose one direction and stay with it

The most common reason people make no progress is not laziness, it is switching. Pick one route — writing, a service, a product, promoting other people's products — and give it a fixed trial period of three months before you judge it.

Measure something from week one

Even a single number helps: visitors, replies, subscribers. Without measurement you cannot tell the difference between an idea that needs more time and one that needs to be replaced.

None of this promises an income. It simply makes the attempt survivable long enough to learn something useful.
